Nyssa Lessingham

associate

Nyssa (she/her/hers) is building a practice in all areas of labour, employment, human rights, professional regulatory and administrative law. She summered with us at Moore Edgar Lyster LLP after her second year of law school. After graduation, Nyssa completed her articles as a judicial law clerk at the Supreme Court of BC where she was assigned to a group of six Justices and gained invaluable experience in all areas of litigation. Following her call to the bar, she rejoined us as an associate lawyer.

Prior to law school, Nyssa worked for several years as a legal advocate at a national non-profit organization, providing support to individuals in BC and the Yukon living with chronic illness to apply for disability benefits and address human rights concerns in the workplace. This experience motivated Nyssa to return to university to study law and pursue a career advocating on behalf of workers and unions.

While in law school, Nyssa completed a co-op work term at a large BC union and competed in the Gale Cup Moot in criminal and constitutional law. She was an active member of her law school community, where she acted as an executive member of UVic Law’s Labour and Refugee Law clubs. Nyssa also volunteered through Pro Bono Students Canada, providing research assistance to Disability Alliance BC. In her last semester of law school, Nyssa completed a clinical term at the Law Centre providing advice and representation to low-income individuals in Greater Victoria in the areas of tenancy, employment, human rights, and criminal law. Upon completing her law degree, Nyssa was awarded the William R. McIntyre Medal, which is presented annually to a graduating student of UVic Law for their community service, student leadership and academic excellence.

Outside of work, Nyssa is a competitive soccer player, playing defense on a Division 1 team in the Metro Women’s Soccer League. She enjoys spending her free time knitting, listening to audiobooks, and watching Jeopardy.
